Kursbeskrivning

Medical German at the highest Level

This course is designed for international doctors at level B2+/C1 who wish to master medical German for their professional everyday life and prepare specifically for the field specified test of the Austrian Medical Chamber (ÖÄK). You will develop the communicative skills needed for clinical and practice settings as well as for the official recognition process.

The focus lies on combining precise medical terminology with patient-centred communication: you will learn to explain diagnoses and findings clearly, conduct consultations with empathy, and interact effectively with relatives, nurses, and colleagues. In addition to specialized vocabulary from areas such as anamnesis, diagnostics, therapy, and emergency medicine, you also practise the everyday language necessary for clear communication with patients.

Through role plays, case studies, and exam simulations, you will gain confidence for the ÖÄK-Exam. At the same time, you will develop an authentic and professional communication style that allows you to perform clearly, competently, and empathetically in your daily work – whether in conversations, documentation, or interdisciplinary meetings.

Overview of language course content

Communicate with patients and their relatives, colleagues, and nursing staff

Discuss topics of Austrian healthcare ranging from taking patients’ medical histories to conducting clinical interviews

Use the linguistic tools of the German language to converse about medical fields

Understand Latin technical terms and their German counterparts

Write administrative letters to healthcare facilities and insurance companies

Prepare for the ÖÄK’s written and oral exam.

In one of the most beautiful streets of the 7th district in Vienna.

The top renovated rooms of our old Viennese Biedermeier house from 1695 offer a comfortable and modern atmosphere to help you focus on your learning. Our offices contain five classrooms, each about 10 to 25 square meters. Every classroom is furnished with easy-to-move desks and chairs, as well as a cloakroom. On sunny days, our picturesque courtyard is also available for lessons outside. Our language institute is on the ground floor. The building itself is under monument protection, it is one of the oldest houses of Vienna. Right around the corner from the school, you will find numerous cafés, restaurants and bars as well as museums, theaters and cinemas.

Buses: 48A (St Ulrichs Platz or Kellermanngasse) or 13A (Neubaugasse/Westbahnstraße or Burggasse/Neubaugasse)

If you're traveling by car, the Contipark Garage Museumsquartier or the Payuca Garage Kirchberggasse are available for a parking fee.

"I had a good experience and improved my language skills during my time there."

The location is practical and accessible. The facilities are new and some are still being renovated/improved. Some equipment such as headphones and microphones were not fully set up and were used on the last day of class. The instructor was really good, spoke clearly and explained things well. The setup of the classes was good. Ideally, it would be great to switch up class activities and make them a bit more dynamic so that it’s not as repetitive over time (such as creating dialogues or conversations). The staff is friendly and helpful, and I appreciated that they provided us with water for every class. Overall I had a very good experience. While there are things still being set up or renovated, I think this institute already has great potential for being a good resource for language learning.
