Kursbeskrivning

The AP has been designed and conceptualized to provide substantial linguistic, cultural and historical skills to our student through 3 trimesters spent with the Levantine Institute. Totalizing 720 hours of classes and 34 hours of private tutoring, the AP accepts students of all levels, with complete beginners starting at the beginning of the year in September and more advanced students joining in October and December.

The aim is to help students achieve high-proficiency in Levantine Dialect and in Modern Standard Arabic (reaching B2 level at the end of the year) through a complete immersion program in the heart of the Levant, the historical city of Tripoli. While Trimester 1 will be focusing on giving the students the basic Arabic skills to interact with their direct environment, Trimester 2 and 3 will take students through a journey across Levantine language, history, politics and culture in order to provide a holistic understanding of the major socio-political developments of the Levant. At the end of the year students who attended the Annual Program will reach a working proficiency in Arabic and will be equipped with all the necessary tools to understand the Levant today, one the most complex region in the World. This program has been specifically designed for all individuals who would like to work in our region, understand its language, culture, media and modern history.

Combining MSA and Levantine dialect classes during the 3 Trimesters, students will also have different modules in Modern History of the Levant, Art and culture of the Levant but also Media and Journalism.

Skolbeskrivning

Levantinstitutet för Tripoli erbjuder högkvalitativa arabiska kurser för utlänningar och arabiska expats som undervisar både Levantine Dialect och Modern Standard Arabic (MSA).

Institutet erbjuder också volontärmöjligheter för att undervisa franska, engelska och/eller delta i olika utbildningsprogram i samarbete med lokala icke-statliga organisationer i norra Libanon.

Syftet är att leva och lära sig det arabiska språket i sin helhet genom sin kultur, historia, anekdoter och faktiska förbindelser och kommunikation med sammanhanget och de människor som befolkar den. LEVIT anser att klasserna bara ger dig nycklarna för att uttrycka dig själv och mycket arbete måste göras utanför klassrummet. Därför valde vi Tripoli: det är en plats där någon elev lätt kan träna vad de lärde sig under kurserna. Genom partnerskap med lokala icke-statliga organisationer och Maan-centret för barn som finns inom våra lokaler uppmuntrar vi studenterna på LEVIT att frivilligt och interagera så mycket som möjligt med lokalsamhället.

Förutom privata lektioner erbjuder LEVIT två program:

vThe Levantine Immersion-programmet tar eleverna från den dagliga grundläggande konversationen och vokabulären till mer komplexa ämnen beroende på framsteg. Undervisningen fokuserar också på att använda ordet av orden, likheterna och skillnaderna mellan det samtal och den bokstavliga och en förklaring av grammatikreglerna som strukturerar dialekten. Du lär dig att prata levantin och få bakgrundsinformation om den arabiska språken. Avancerade klasser tar itu med socio-politiska ämnen i vår region samt kultur, litteratur och media.

 
vThe MSA (Modern Standard Arabic) -programmet för alla nivåer baserat på samma interaktiva filosofi. Från och med nybörjarkurser tar vårt MSA-program grunden till arabisk läsning hela vägen till specialiserade ämnen med inriktning på journalistik, politik, internationella relationer och sociologi för de mer avancerade nivåerna. För att uppfylla internationella standarder för MSA, beror LEVIT mest på "Al-Kitaab" -boken.

Ta en taxi till busstationen Charles Helou i Beirut. En Connex buss åker till Tripoli varje 30mn, wifi finns tillgänglig ombord. När du anlänt till bussens slutliga destination, Sahet el Nour, ta en taxi till Madraset el Room (ortodoxskolan) intill 'Furn el Meer' i Zahrieh-distriktet. LEVIT ligger precis bredvid Madraset el-rummet på vänster sida.

Det är också möjligt att gå från Sahet el Noor, ot Tall centralplats (där den ottomanska klockan är belägen) till LEVIT. Från Tall är det en 7mn promenad och från Sahet el Noor mindre än 15mn.

"Not what I expected"

I had two teachers. The one I had in group lesson was great, she has put lot of efforts to teach outside of the box. I have progressed and improved a lot thanks to her dedication. The second teacher wasn’t very professional and didn’t have a lot of experience teaching foreign students since she has been teaching kids until then. Curriculum very disappointing, with little consistency.

The administration is overall not organised. No one was here for the check in at the house, I had to wait one hour for them to send one of their maintenance staff. There was no wifi in the house and no indication or welcome tips for you to get around. The house was more like an annex of the office institute. The administration staff will often show up without any notice. They also gave the key to one of the student for her to have her class in our house with again no notification. The house had active cameras, I have asked several times to remove them, it’s only been covered one week before the end.

No activities took place, you must pay more if you want to participate. I wouldn’t recommend to book the taxi through the institute as they charge double the price.
